Yoga Nidra is literally translated into ‘yogic sleep’; although it is not really a practice of sleep, but more a state of being, achieved through specific techniques of guided relaxation based on ancient practice.
During Yoga Nidra and during other styles of similar meditative practices or hypnotic states, the body is in complete relaxation, (asleep in a sense), and the mind is in a stable state, but Yoga Nidra is more about a heightened state of effortless awareness. It allows the same kind of balance of opposites that the recognised Chinese Yin-Yang symbol depicts, or the term Hatha yoga describes (Ha and tha being like the sun and moon).
Yoga Nidra is the experience of awakening at the same time as being completed at rest or ‘asleep’.
It is important to practice Yoga Nidra in a safe environment, either alone, or with people that you trust.
During Yoga Nidra you can find the space you may crave away from daily life, and the time to reside within yourself.
